The flower fairies are out in force now that the summer sun is shining once again. This lovely flower fairy rose mask is just the thing for the girly girls in line who wants something pretty in pink, although if you have some other split cakes available, be sure to try it out in other colors as well for those who prefer blues, purples, or other colors.
Materials
• Diamond FX split cake Strawberry Delight
• Large Cameleon angle brush
• Diamond FX white or Wolfe white
• TAG pearl rose
• TAG pearl white
• Sponge
• #2 round brush
• TAG green
• 1/2-inch flat brush
• Paint pal petal brush
• Pink or iridescent white cosmetic glitter
Tutorial
Begin with a combination of TAG pearl rose and TAG pearl white on your sponge. Apply it evenly around the eyes in a mask shape. Add some pink cosmetic glitter for sparkle with your poofer before the background color dries.
Next, load your angle brush from the small split cake with the white on the longer bristles and the deep red/pink on the shorter bristles. Make a five-petaled rose shape in the center of the forehead just above the eyebrow line and at the outer corner of each eye. These shapes will be the outer edges of your roses.
Using the angle brush again, make a conical shape in the center and pull curved petals in from the outside to make your other rose petals.
Load your petal brush well with white and dip the tip in pink. Press the petals in a double row curving up and away from the center rose. Add more petals at the corners of the eyes. Also put three small petals under the main rose in the center.
Using the 1/2-inch flat (or angle) brush and double loading it with TAG greens, make several leaves for your roses. Use your #2 round brush to create white swirls around the mask on the forehead and cheeks.
Finally, finish up with some pink swirls, white dots, and white starbursts to fill in any empty spaces. This will help the entire design look more connected. If you have time, always take a few seconds at the end of your painting to ask yourself if you can do anything to make it better.
Each flower fairy will be unique and special, so don’t be concerned about changing out elements and adapting it to your own style. That’s part of the creative fun!
